2023-02-11 newsletter

Greetings to the residents of Sanibel and Captiva from the farm,

Last week there was a good number of visitors to the Captiva market.
Thank you to so many of you who are sharing with others about this
market.

I brought Simeon, our oldest child, to the market this past week. He
has been going to markets since he was born! Now 10 years old, he could
probably run it without me!

We look forward to being at McCarthy’s Marina Tuesday, 9-11 am. We
will set up both a small market stand of produce and provide an option
for people to pick up their pre-orders.

If you would like to place an order for Tuesday pick up,
please do so before 8 pm Sunday at www.12seasonsfarm.com.

Here is our weekly schedule:

This is what we are harvesting:

  • Strawberries

  • Summercrisp Lettuce

  • Baby Butterhead Lettuce

  • Romaine lettuce

  • Large Leaf Butterhead lettuce

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Heirloom/Specialty tomatoes

  • Red Slicing tomatoes

  • Arugula

  • Curly kale

  • Flat kale

  • Mixed kale

  • Broccoli

  • Broccoli greens

  • Cauliflower

  • Rainbow carrots

  • Cucumbers (limited)

  • Zucchini

  • Sweet Peppers

  • Eggplant

  • Round radish

  • Daikon radish

  • Watermelon radish

  • Green onions

  • Dill

  • Cilantro

  • Italian flat parsley

  • Curled parsley

  • Saw Palmetto Honey

  • Lemons

  • Sunflowers

We still have a decent crop of cauliflower for a week or two longer
before a break until the next flight begins to head out.

We have lots of beautiful lettuce available right now. We are at the
peak of the season. As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, it
makes it harder on lettuce. The crop in the photo is of the green and
red baby butterhead.

We have edible nasturtium blossoms available now. They have a peppery
radish flavor and bring bright colors and beauty to a salad.

We have a strong kale crop this year. We spoke this morning at the
Bonita market with an owner of a juicing company who plans to order
weekly amounts of curly kale for his juice recipe. If you haven’t tried
our mixed kale bouquets, they are also amazing. I order a kale blend of
at least 8 varieties from a seed company in Maine. It makes for a
delicious kale massage salad as do the straight and curly kale
bunches.

I look forward to seeing many of you again this Tuesday.

It is a pleasure to serve you!

Danny, Vicki, the kids, and the 12 Seasons Team
