2023-02-04 newsletter

Greetings to the residents of Sanibel and Captiva from the farm,

We had a good week on the farm as the weather has been favorable. We
have very good tomato, broccolini, cauliflower, cabbage, and carrot
production right now.

My daughter Annika enjoyed having the company of her friend,
Meredith, at the Captiva market. Thanks to those who came out to see us
last Tuesday.

We are grateful to the Captiva Civic Association for featuring us in
their newsletter recently. Thank you to Wendy Childers and her husband
for being so helpful in this process to let the residents know we are
present each Tuesday.

As usual, we plan to be at McCarthy’s Marina Tuesday, 9-11 am. We
will set up both a small market stand of produce and provide an option
for people to pick up their pre-orders. And we continue to be thankful
to Captain Bob and Jenny Rando of Captiva Cruises for this opportunity
to be there.

If you would like to place an order for Tuesday pick up,
please do so before 8 pm Sunday at www.12seasonsfarm.com.

This is what we are harvesting:

  • Strawberries

  • Summercrisp Lettuce

  • Baby Butterhead Lettuce

  • Romaine lettuce

  • Large Leaf Butterhead lettuce

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Heirloom/Specialty tomatoes

  • Red Slicing tomatoes

  • Arugula

  • Curly kale

  • Flat kale

  • Mixed kale

  • Broccoli

  • Broccoli greens

  • Cauliflower

  • Rainbow carrots

  • Cucumbers (limited)

  • Zucchini

  • Sweet Peppers

  • Eggplant

  • Round radish

  • Daikon radish

  • Watermelon radish

  • Green onions

  • Dill

  • Cilantro

  • Italian flat parsley

  • Curled parsley

  • Saw Palmetto Honey

  • Lemons

  • Sunflowers

We have a lot of tomatoes that are beginning to ripen. This
particular variety is a very sweet pink tomato.

We are beginning to harvest a modest amount of starfruit. It is
encouraging to get some tree fruit production since Hurricane Ian. Most
of our fruit production on the farm is extremely low since the hurricane
having lost most all the avocado, citrus, papaya, and banana crops.

Broccolini or sprouted broccoli has been yielding very well
lately.

We have a great team this season. Each morning we meet for 10-15
minutes to discuss the harvesting duties, crop maintenance schedule,
planting plans, etc. They work hard and well to bring fresh, tasty, and
healthy produce to all.

We hope to see many of you on Tuesday at McCarthy’s Marina.

Cheers!

Danny, Vicki, the kids, and the 12 Seasons Team
